Guild Wars 2 Trading Post Blog & Community. Come check us out.

Good Morning Everyone,

I wanted to put this post up to inform you guys about the current situation with this site and what I am personally doing as it pertains to blogging.  This site is still going to be on an indefinite hiatus.  I just can't find the interest in Diablo 3 that I thought I would have.  I have spent every single spare moment of my time working building up a drama-free community for Guild Wars 2.  I have three main sites right now.

I don't know what all of your plans are for gaming.  I know many of you still find a lot of enjoyment in Diablo 3 and that is totally cool.  The game is just not for everyone.  I'm not going to insult the game to all of you who enjoy it.  I don't know when, or even if, I will be back to blogging about Diablo 3.

If you are at all interested in playing Guild Wars 2 and making gold come on over and give us a look.  We've also got a special blog which is devoted to guest posts.  You can write about anything you want as frequently as you would like.  That is the sister site to Guild Wars 2 Riches.  It is Guild Wars 2 Trading Post.

As I write this the launch of Guild War 2 is just 12 hours away and we are all scrambling to get our day 1 strategies lain out.  We've all got great plans for this early access period and you can be sure that we will be sharing them in the coming week or two.

On of the things that I looked back at with this site and wished I could have done all over was the silly drama.  While I do not regret calling out Markco for his ways I would certainly have done it in a different way, but you know how quickly ego's can throw fuel on a fire.  The thing I have done with my new site(s) is really focus on having zero drama.  My own community members have done a fantastic job all by themselves of keeping it drama free.  I haven't had to moderate a single comment due to it causing drama.  Truth be told since mid June when I started the site I have only had to moderate 4 comments.  Three of them were spam and one was from my old pal.

I am really excited about playing Guild Wars 2.  It is the first major MMO which I have followed closely since the day it was announced and there is something exciting about that to me.  As I said before I don't know what the future hold for this site.  Blizzard can absolutely draw me back into the game.  I know this because they have a long and spirited history of doing it; however, until that happens I just can't force myself to write about the game.

I want to thank everyone who has supported the site and hope to see a few of you playing Guild Wars 2 with us.  We're a friendly community, we don't bite and we are just as passionate about Guild Wars 2 as the community from Diablo 3 it.   Talk to you later everyone!

Free Diablo 3 Guide will be going on an indefinite hiatus.

Hey everyone,

Just wanted to throw the quick short little update and inform you guys that this blog will be going on an indefinite hiatus. Right now the state of Diablo 3 is pretty well known. The game has some serious issues with itas far as endgame goes and that makes it very difficult for players to keep coming back in playing the game day in and day out. Myself, and everyone else helping out with the site, feel the same way so we're taking a short break from not only the game, but from this blog as well.

While we are gone all the content will stay here. Were not wiping out the blog or anything like that. You can still view the Free Diablo 3 Guide as you always have been. The reason why I say that the hiatus is indefinite is because we just don't know what the game is going to do with the patches that are coming in the future. If a patch in the future reinvigorates the game and there is a demand for new and useful gold tips you can be sure that we will be right back here writing new post as often as we possibly can. At the moment we are hoping that the patch, which eventually will bring player versus player combat to the game, will create an influx of people who are wanting to buy gear. Right now it seems like that is the best shot for the game. Until then we are just going to let this site age like a fine wine and let its contents speak for itself.

While this blog is going to be in active, I myself will be blogging about Guild Wars 2. I know that a great deal of you are going to be migrating over to Guild Wars 2 as well and I would like to invite you to check out my new blog devoted to making gold in Guild Wars 2.  I have already noticed that a great deal of you have been checking out my site and even a handful of you have sent some very nice e-mails to me in the short time that I've had the site up and running. I would like to thank you for being a fan of not only the site but all of my work on other sites as well.

On behalf of everybody that helps out with the site and everybody who has contributed to this site I would like to say farewell for the time being and hopefully we will see you again in a few months – or maybe even less!

Sincerely,

The Free Diablo 3 Guide Team

Buy low sell normal is a foolish idea that will actually lessen your profits.

If you have been around the Diablo 3 gold making scene long enough you have surely stumbled across Diablo3GoldGuide.NET by now.  Before I go on I will address the crickets here as of late.  In the past week I havne't had a chance to post here much due to some pretty big things going on in my real life.  I am hoping to post here as often as I can, but the summer is a busy time for everyone and I am sure you understand.  Now, that being said I want to talk to you about the site I mentioned.  The sites writers Markco has a cute little slogan that he uses.  He used it in World Of Warcraft when he played as well trying to fit it into his new endeavor with Diablo 3. The slogan he uses is "Buy Low, Sell Normal."

Does that saying sound a bit silly?  Don't worry, your instinct isn't wrong, it is silly.  Actually it's just plain old stupid and really nothing more than a sales tactic (Par for the course however for Markco).  You are all intelligent folks so I'm sure you have heard the real saying.  The one you should be following and living by.  The one that goes "Buy Low, Sell High."  The one that has been tried and true; proven by millions of examples of economic success by those who have used it.  Yeah--I'm talking that one.  Buy low, sell high is a very simplistic concept to grasp.  You buy a commodity, or anything really, when the price of it is low.  You sit on it for a while.  When the price rises you sell and walk away with a profit.  Rinse and repeat until you are a millionaire will offshore bank account in Switzerland.

Now I will admit I bag on Markco a lot on this site.  I do it because I fundamentally disagree with the vast majority of the things he does.  I won't get into that today and not to mention I've got more than one post here explaining that.  Today's post is because his mantra of Buy low, sell normal is just bad practice if you actually follow it.  In the context of Diablo 3 it makes no sense.  Diablo 3's markets are fluctuating second by second which means there is no such thing as "Normal."  So right there his policy is flawed.  His policy is identical in every way to Buy low, sell high except in name.  He is telling people to purchase an item.  Wait for the price to rise and then sell it off.  Pardon my language, but how the fuck is that not "Buy low, sell high?"

Ok, Ok, Ok--you're right Markco has a little bit to add to an already existing, time-tested, tried and true slogan for making money.  What he is saying is you should sell, get this, sooner.  You need to sell your items before they go higher in value so you sell them faster.  Makes sense right!?--Oh, you don't get it either?  Don't worry, because you aren't alone at all.  Since beginning this site I actually have had both e-mails and DM tweets from people asking me to elaborate on what the hell he is talking about.  What I have told all of them and I am now telling you is that it means nothing.  It means nothing except Buy low, sell high.  It means the exact same thing it is just being used as a sales tactic to have you get out your credit card.  I tell them that using this strategy with yield you less profits because he is under this belief that we as individual players are able to function exactly like WalMart.  Doing what WalMart in real life in Diablo 3 is not physically possible. You cannot control an entire market and even Markco admits this in his sales pitch for his guide.  Telling you to take less profits more times on a game that limits the amount of things you can sell is just stupid and I question the intelligence of anyone who would suggest it.

I'm not a fool, I understand the concept of selling things at a lower price and faster.  That too is an economic strategy that has worked well.  Just about all big name stores do it, but I have to emphasis that none of you are a big name store in Diablo 3.  You may control one specific market for one specific block of time, but you will never be at a place economically in Diablo 3 where you can regularly undercut people to the point where taking less profits is more beneficial.

No matter what way you spin it and no matter what small little twist Markco thinks he is putting on his saying it is still, in every single way you look at it, the same strategy that has been used for decades.  So what is the reason behind Buy low, sell normal you ask?  To me I think it's easy.  Everyone wanting to gain attention needs something unique.  They need something that no one else has.  They need that one thing to draw people in, get them reading and in Markco's case hopefully purchasing his guide.  So in comes this Frankenstein saying of his to fill that role.  It is little more than a tagline to garner attention from people who are looking for answers.

Blizzard admits Diablo 3′s endgame is lacking: “We know it’s not there right now”

The following is an important article regarding Diablo 3's "End-Game."  Essentially Bashiok as admitted that the way the game is now is unsustainable because there is little incentive to continue playing the game.  Redoing old content over and over with no purpose behind it is just not many persons idea of fun--myself included.  Lately I have been playing a bit less Diablo 3 because of this very thing they are addressing.  Thankfully they have plans to fix this!

Here is the article:

Blizzard Community Manager, Bashiok, has been discussing Diablo 3′s endgame on their official forums. Posting on the “Endgame Solutions” thread, he’s admitted that “the item hunt is not enough for a long sustainable end-game.” Players have criticised Diablo 3′s repair costs and difficulty spike at higher levels, saying it becomes something of a grind.
Diablo 3 scored 90% on PC Gamer. Tom described it as a “phenomenally good game, immediately fun to play and enduringly compulsive, albeit for very different reasons than the rest of the series.”
“Hindsight is 20/20 I suppose, but we believed pre-release that the item hunt would be far more sustainable, and would work to be a proper end-game for quite a while. That didn’t turn out to be true, and we recognize that,” said the community manager in a later post. Diablo 3′s in-game and real-money auction houses have been controversial additions since they were announced, forcing players to go shopping before they tackling Sanctuary’s highest level beasts.
“Diablo III is not World of Warcraft” admits Bashiok.
“We’re not going to be able to pump out tons of new systems and content every couple months,” he continues. “There needs to be something else to keep people engaged, and we know it’s not there right now.”
Interestingly, Bashiok references Diablo’s unreleased PVP component as a possible solution to the lack of late game. That’s due to hit in patch 1.1 which doesn’t yet have a release date.
“We’re working toward 1.0.4, which we’re really trying to pack with as many fixes and changes we can to help you guys out (and we’ll have a bunch of articles posted with all the details as we get closer), and we’re of course working on 1.1 with PvP arenas” said the Blizzard employee.
“I think both those patches will do a lot to give people things to do, and get them excited about playing, but they’re not going to be a real end-game solution, at least not what we would expect out of a proper end-game. We have some ideas for progression systems, but honestly it’s a huge feature if we want to try to do it right, and not something we could envision being possible until well after 1.1 which it itself still a ways out,” he continued.
Are you still playing Diablo 3? Does it feel like there’s something missing?

How to make easy gold when starting out in Diablo 3. One simple strategy to get you started.

For today's tip we are focusing more on buying rather than selling.  Flipping is the term that most use.  You are buying up items for cheap and selling them at a normal price.  A lot of people live by the mantra of buy low, sell high.  That works well, but you can also buy really low and sell at a discount if you are good and no what you are looking for.  So now you are asking yourself; What am I looking for?

The answer is simple.  You are looking for those auctions that are going to be expiring within the next 10-30 minutes.  You want to buy all those up as often as you can.  They key though, and I put a major emphasis on this, is to bid on those items and not buy them outright.  The reason being that people will always structure their auctions around the buyout and not the bids.  So you may see an item with a buyout of 10,000 gold, but a bid of 500 gold.  This is insane profits for you with little work involved.

This strategy isn't all that risky, but just like any, there are things you should be looking for or at the very least be aware of.

What are the things I should watch out for?

  • The items you are buying are obviously not selling.  It is up to you to determine the reason for that.  Probably the most common is because the buyout price is too high.  Often times people pick up a rare item and assume that it is valuable when its not.  I have said this so many times already on this site and I can't say it enough.  You need to be colorblind with your auctions.  Sell the stats, not the colors.
  • Is there a market for the item you are buying?  Many items don't sell because they are just junk and no one will find use for them.  This doesn't mean you cannot buy these items yet though!  When you are dealing with level 60 items you can still buy them for salvaging provided the price of essences and other crafting materials are at the right price.  Don't buy any of these unless you are bidding on it and spending less than 1500-1700 gold.  This is a bit arbitrary for me but that is where I aim for based on the profits I desire when doing something like this.  I list this as a danger because unless you understand the numbers you stand to lose money doing this and it is never a guarantee.
  • Some gear just isn't worth that much and thus it will have a low bid.  If you see an item that has a low bid and buyout this is what you should do.  First apply the first two tips to it.  Is it worthless? Do its stats work for any class?  If those two criteria don't work for it just let it go.  If you are in the business of making gold you aren't in the business of small money returns so move on to the bigger stuff.  Why take up your precious slots on the AH with gear that is only going to get you 1-2,000 gold?  It's not worth it.

What are the benefits and things I should be looking for with this strategy?

  • Un-Gemmed gear!  Can you say goldmine?  Seriously--if you can get a piece of gear for 500 gold that has a gem slot in it and has stats that cater to one another you just struck oil.  You could get an item for 500 gold andGem it with a cheap gem and list it for the same price and sell it in minutes!
  • Weapons.  Weapons sell the best in Diablo 3.  This is because people are replacing their weapons much more often than their gear.  If you want a quick turnaround find that cheap weapon that is about to expire.  Within 20 minutes you could have a 15,000+ gold profit for less than 2 minutes of work.
  • VERY IMPORTANT--Every piece of gear that you buy you should double check its stat value on the RMAH. If you just got it for 500 Gold you could possibly make $0.50-1.00 profit on it if you sold it on the RMAH. Most of the profits outside of selling my own obtained gear was made this way on the RMAH. Buying items for gold and selling them for cash makes you feel pretty damn cool let me tell you!
  • The biggest benefit to following this strategy is that you are making large chunks of gold for just a minute or so of work!
  • This strategy requires very little gold.  Spending at little as 500 gold could get you 15,000+ in return.

Starting out in Diablo 3 is tough and with this strategy you will be rolling in the gold before you know it and moving on to the high priced markets and serious RMAH profits.  Enjoy!

Diablo 3 gold making strategies do not get easier than this. Swapping gems for profit!

Thank you to everyone that has supported Free Diablo 3 Guide in the last two months.  Because of you we've just reached a major milestone!  We've surpased 40,000 views!  So thank you fans!

Today's tip does not get any easier than this.  No seriously they don't.  People are practically giving away money to you.

I cannot tell you the amount of times that I've been on the auction house and seen gear that have the wrong gems in them.  People do this because they either aren't concerned or aren't smart enough to buy the correct piece of gear for themselves.  They will buy an item that has +100 Strength, +75 Dexterity & +60 Vitality (This is just an example) and they will put an green gem that will increase their Dexterity into it.  This is a potential for some nice profits if you can spot it for the right price.  The image you see to the right is what I have really been going after.  The critical hit damage in this case isn't technically wrong, but you can put a Radiant Ruby into it and it will show up on a lot more players lists when they search for 2 handed weapons.  Then I can take that same gem and put it into a piece of gear which maybe has a red gem in it and increase its Dexterity making it more attractive to Demon Hunters.  As a byproduct I am then left with a red gem.  Then it just continues on and on until you get bored of it then you purchase a piece of gear with no gem in it.  You throw a gem into that and you are done for the night.  It is almost a game within a game.

When I run across gear that's got the wrong gem in it I try to get it in the range for 5-8K gold.  Then I will take the gem out.  Replace it--and then put it on the auction house for anywhere from 15-30K gold depending on its stats.  You will see a lot of gear that even has 2 gem sockets and just a single gem placed on it.  This too is a fantastic way to flip and item for sometimes 200-300% profit.  It really doesn't get easier than that.  Pricing is an important issue with this method.  You've got to check the current prices of items when they've got gems in them.  If you are only able to purchase them for 10K and resell them for 15K it really isn't worth it.  At least in my eyes it's not.

Quick side note on the subject of stumbling across high quality gems, by the way.  If you've got a keen eye and are looking for it you can find people who make the terrible mistake of putting a very high quality gem into their gear and selling their gear as junk.  This happens all the time as well.  I don't know what would make someone do something so foolish, but it happens and way more than you would expect.  In case you aren't sure what the gems actually look like here is the gem progression chart that shows the worse to best gems.  The further right they go the more they are obviously worth.  I am usually looking for the Square through Radiant Square gems.  Reason being that those are in a decent price point where many people are buying them and they still give a large return when you upgrade a piece of gear with them.  Those are the ones I've found the most.

Here is the FULL chart.  It applies to all gems.  Ruby is just the example image:

I have plowed through a ton of different strategies since I've begun playing Diablo 3 and I have to admit this one is by far, without question, the easiest one that I have done.  I do have to be honest I didn't come up with it personally.  I was working in a group with a few buddies and I gave a piece of gear to a buddy.  Then when he was done with it he gave it back to me and I realized he had put the wrong gem in it to buff his own stats.  It was the wrong piece of gear for him but with the high quality gem it was usable for him for the time being.  When I got it back I realized the gem and he said keep it so I swapped it out, put an emerald in it and threw the ruby into a weapon and walked away with almost 50K gold worth of profits.  Incredibly easy!
